What is this project all about?
“Residenzpflicht” will have its world premiere on the 10th of May in Berlin, at the cinema babylon, in Mitte. The film was produced over the last 3 years and is a close colaboration with grassroots refugees organizations, anti-racist groups, lawyers, academics and activists. It is a first hand analysis of the separate world the refugees are living in countries where human rights are thought to be respected. To premiere the film and invite as many refugees as possible we need to give free tickets for the premiere. We also need to produce the DVD copies of the film as well as posters and flyers and for that we ask for your money support and presence at the premiere.
If we get more than the 2000€, the addicional money will go to the preparation of our Film-tour through the asylum camps in Germany.
What is project goal and who is the project for?
The main goal is to break the isolation of asylum seekers living in camps, showing there are groups and activists who are working against laws such as the Residenzpflicht. That they are not alone. Furthermore the German society should be better informed and sensibilized about these problems.
The documentary “Residenzpflicht” will enforce the discussion about the right of residence in Germany. In order to show it to a broader audience we look forward to have the film screened on TVs and participating on Film festivals. As mentioned before, we plan to screen it in asylum camps all over Germany. We want to reach the relevant people and give them the possibility to learn more about their rights and the situation which they are facing.
The film shows for the first time all important aspects connected to the topic of Residenzpflicht and it is an eye opener for all of those, who are working as activists for human rights in Germany or anywhere else.
Why should you support this project?
Everyday racism and intolerance grow daily in the european societies and project like ours are needed because it stands against a xenophobic and racist society.
With the support of several refugee self-organized groups, media, lawyers, academics and artists our team produced the film “Residenzpflicht” and hope that together with the public more awareness will be raised.
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
The documentary is already finished, after three years of research and production. To finance the premiere and the dvd we need your support.
The premiere of the film will be at 10.05.12 at the cinema Babylon Mitte/ Berlin. The ticket for the film is 7€, which many refugees won't be able to pay, so we need to raise money to be able to give refugees free tickets.
To launch a successful campaing we need flyers, posters, and dvds.
We have already produced a Master for the dvd copies of the film where audiences will find subtitles in four different languages: German, English, Portuguese and Farsi.
Who are the people behind the project?
Our team is a wild bunch of Berliners coming from different countries and different areas of occupation.
In charge of the project is the journalist, film producer and director Denise Garcia Bergt. She produced more the twenty films. In 2005 she directed the documentary “I´m Ugly but Trendy”, a film about female singers from the slums of Rio de Janeiro/Brasil.
The Camera was made by photographer Cassiano Griesang, who also edited the film with Denise Garcia Bergt.
