What is this project all about?
piamo is an alternative for all espresso drinkers, to get an espresso anywhere a microwave is accessible. At the office, at home and even travelling!
How does it work?
Fill in water. Insert an espresso pad or ground coffee. Stack it, flip it and place piamo in your microwave.
Now your microwave does all the magic: due to heating pressure builds up and makes the water run through the coffee, creating your fresh espresso straight into the cup.
Enjoy your freshly brewed espresso only 30 seconds later. Afterwards, either put piamo in your dishwasher or rinse to clean it.

So that piamo can be with you through daily life, a food safe plastic has been chosen as material. Since a cool clean look and a pleasant surface feeling and handling are important to us, we are paying close attention to design and especially usability. For example the cup feels more like a porcelain cup due to a higher weight.
The espresso maker is complemented by the filling-set consisting of a portioning spoon and a box for ground espresso. This enables swift and clean filling of the maker with ground espresso. The enclosed bag offers easy transportation.
Story behind the project
I love to drink espresso. II work in a big building with more than 600 people. On my floor there is just an office kitchen that only has a microwave. The next espresso machine is far, far away. It takes a long time to get there and back.
One evening while having an espresso, I lamented about my situation at work. My brother suggested to take a stove top espresso maker to work. But without a stove top, there will be no espresso. I mentioned that there is a microwave oven. Both of us being engineers, finding a solution should not be impossible. While discussing this issue an idea was born … piamo, a single-serve espresso maker for microwaves
Thus we started our adventure and the journey began ...

Our goal is to give you an alternative to easily enjoy an espresso, using a microwave oven.

Why should you support this project?

The feasibility of piamo has been verified with several tiers of prototypes. We started with self-made prototypes to test the basic idea. To receive more insights of the brewing process, we developed and build a computer triggered microwave-simulator. It was used to identify the crucial quality parameters.
To unify design and technology the advanced pre-series injection mold prototype P7 was developed and build. Since then more than a thousand espressi have been brewed and tasted using these prototypes. Creating a full espresso experience again and again has proven: we are ready for the next stage of our adventure …

In case we reach the funding goal of 250T€, piamo will be made for you in a large quantity using high-quality injection mold tools. Every supporter receiving a piamo with a limited edtion bag, may take part in designing this special bag!

Reaching the Fundingschwelle of 145T€ only an injection mold small series of 2000 devices with a standard bag can be made. Furthermore, the following applies:
Due to the limited number of 2000 devices, getting a piamo depends on the time of payment.
All those having chosen a piamo maker, will have the chance to obtain a piamo of the small series by paying an extra amount.
Its your choice: „money back“ or „i want a piamo“. When choosing „money back“, the next in line moves forward.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
With successfully funding this project we will start the process of making the injection mold tools. Into this our experience with P7 will be integrated. Following your piamo will be produced, packed and shipped. All of these steps probable take 7 month from receiving the funding. Of course we will keep you informed about the progress.
Your contribution will be used for:
- making the injection mold tools
- making your piamo
- sending piamo to you
- sales taxes that have to be paid
Who are the people behind the project?
Project realization is done by gemodo coffee GmbH, a young company having the goal to create new modern alternatives for preparing hot beverages. Products for daily use being progressive, practical and personal.
The driving force behind piamo and gemodo coffee is Christoph Meyl. Supporting him is his brother Hendrik, an inventor and specialist for intellectual property.
Concerning design we work closely with the international renowned design-studio LUNAR Europe. During the development of piamo many people have supported us as well, either giving advice or doing specialist work. My thanks to all of them for their support and believe in us and piamo.
