FOKKER - The Documentary 2012
What is this project all about?
Fokker – a dream takes wing
Today, the airplane is the fastest and safest method of travel available. But it was not always so. Just under 100 years ago certain ingenious engineers set about constructing the perfect aircraft. One of these ground-breaking visionaries was Anthony Fokker. As a result of his extensive experiments, risky flying machines underwent a metamorphosis, becoming the high-powered, but controllable aircraft that we know today.
Achim Engels, an amateur inventor from the town of Schorndorf in Baden-Württemberg, has made it his life’s work to reconstruct that forgotten chapter in the history of the development of flight. By means of reverse-engineering exact copies of Fokker’s machines he has been able to trace the original creative process. Thus begins our trip back in time as we experience the first steps towards the conquest of the skies.
What is project goal and who is the project for?
The members of our target audience, falling into the age group 30-60, are likely to be documentary fans and especially the younger viewers who will be interested in history, technology and aviation. We make our documentaries because we ourselves are fascinated by the subject. We hope to inspire a wide audience who are interested in facts as well as historical and modern images.
Why should you support this project?
We have already produced a similar documentary (Bachem BA-349 Natter) and we are deeply committed to our projects. Evidence of this is the positive feedback that we received from eye witnesses and insiders. We would like once more to create a film which combines information with entertainment. However, we need to work independently in order to uncover the straight, unbiased, historical facts and to do this we need your help to get the project “off the ground”.
How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?
We have a strong team comprised of media experts and actors as well as people with a strong technical background. One third of the funding has already been raised. We need the balance of funding to finance the main filming, which will include: lighting and sound equipment hire, props, consumable materials and incidental expenses incurred by our support staff e.g. long distance travel costs and overnight accommodation for our researchers as well as shooting at original locations.
