Updates

Update from 26.10.2012

Hi, from all the messages I've been receiving it seems like there is some confusion.
So to clear it up - the actual project only takes place in Berlin but to help me realize it you can contribute from 5-45 Euros. If you click on the little green arrow next to the amount it will show you what 'you' get in exchange for the money that you pledge.
So for example with a pledge of 25 Euros - you get the same book that the random people in Berlin get, which will be posted to you anywhere in the world.

Hallo zusammen,

What is this project all about?

The first time I was in Berlin I felt like I was coming back to an old lover. After two years the love has only grown stronger.

That first year I did an impromptu exhibition, carrying ladders and large prints late in the night to hang them high up on the Oberbaumbrücke with my girlfriend and two of her friends. All the prints were stolen a week later (I'm still waiting to land up at some stranger's party and find them hanging on the wall, what a kick that will be!).

This year I did a multimedia show in a black box made of cloth, in the middle of the Maybachufer market in Berlin, inviting strangers to take a peek into my world.

I now wish to gift 100 handwritten small books to 50 random people in Berlin for this Christmas. Each person will receive 2 of these books, one to keep for themselves and another one to gift to anyone they wish. 2 books each will be sent by post to 25 random people in Berlin chosen from the phone book and 2 books each will be hand gifted to the rest (maybe on the traffic light, by the river spree or in the toilet of a bar, we'll see).
Every book/parcel would contain a note explaining the project.
The circle would complete if they send me a gift in return. It can be anything that's as its as close to their heart, as this book is to mine {eg. a secret poem, something handmade inspired by this book, or an ancient gold coin maybe ;-) }

I feel that a book needs to be touched and smelled and discovered, which is why I've only given a glimpse of the book here.

What is project goal and who is the project for?

This is for the people of Berlin, a city I absolutely love. In a sense its my gift to the city as much as it is for those 50 random people that will get my book.
Its also an exchange, of love and ideas.
I can't wait to see what gifts I get.

Why should you support this project?

Because you believe in ideas. Because you love art. Because you love gifts and surprises as much as I do.
Because you believe in spontaneity and breaking molds.

So if you wish to support this project then please choose any of the 4 rewards on the right. The actual project only takes place in Berlin but by choosing any of the rewards you take the project anywhere in the world.
Only if the project reaches the target of 1000 Euros will the money be sent to me otherwise it will all be returned.

How will we use the money if the project is successfully funded?

The money will be used for the printing, packaging and posting of the 100 books plus the cost of rewards.

Who are the people behind the project?

V Karthik - Who has been gracious enough to allow me complete access to everything in his life.
Stephanie Haneberg - My girlfriend for the German translation.
and me, Ankit Goyal, the photographer and author of this project and the book.
